Major Ingredients

Harness Special is scientifically formulated to contain a
comprehensive range of vitamins and trace-minerals which are essential for horse health, vitality and performance. The formulation is regularly updated to the latest guidelines for optimum nutrition in harness horses.

A blend of cold-pressed, colour coded Supplet pellets separated into 4 compatible nutrient groups which ensures the potency and stability of the vitamins and trace-minerals in the supplement and in the feed.

A full range of trace-minerals, many in organic chelated form for optimum bioavailability

All essential vitamins and vitamin co-factors as potency protected forms

Supplementation Guidelines

Each level scoopful of Harness Special provides 40 grams (LARGE END) and 15 grams (SMALL END) of the double ended scoop.

Daily supplementation rates from 40 – 60 grams per day (for harness horses 400-450kg bodyweight) provide a practical guideline for supplementing the diets of horses in early training or regular racing. 

Even when feeding prepared, commercial ‘complete’ feeds designed for high intensity work, many race trainers choose to boost nutrient content and optimise energy efficiency by adding 40 g of Harness Special to the ration for the last 5 days before and after racing.

Our Concept for Harness Special

Protection of Potency

Harness Special is particularly potent and effective because the highly digestible iron and other trace-minerals in the supplement cannot destroy the sensitive vitamins, such as vitamins A, C and E.  Harness Special can be mixed into wet and dry feeds without need for extra liquid iron supplements which would cause vitamin loss and reduce the benefit from feeds and other supplements. 

Does Not Swab

Harness Special doesn’t contain any banned substances or other ingredients that swab. Harness Special does not contain added cobalt.   However, rules prohibiting the use of any pre-race supplements should be followed if required by local Racing or Competition authorities.

Can Harness Special be used in spelling harness horses?

We recommend for economy and nutrient balance that spelling harness horses be provided with Cell-Vital to meet their needs at rest, rather than the high intensity nutrient levels in Harness Special.

Supplementation with Harness Special can resume 1-2 weeks before the return to training to build antioxidants and iron in the blood for increased stamina and performance once training starts again.

Can Harness Special be used on race day?

Harness Special doesn’t contain any nutrients that swab.  However, rules prohibiting the use of any pre-race supplements should be followed if required by local Racing or Competition authorities.

Can Harness Special be used to top-up commercial feeds?

Yes, Harness Special is a great top-up supplement for commercial high performance feeds.  Harness Special is suitable for all types of diets, to supplement a home-mixed ration of grain and chaff, correct a prepared feed base and top-up a commercial complete feed.

Harness Special contains premium, high potency forms of the nutrients that are much more stable and available than in many feeds.  This allows the optimum benefit to trotting and pacing horses in terms of ensuring top micronutrient intake.

Many trainers also add an extra grain portion to their horses’ diets in order to get the best economy and energy provision for their rations.  As a guide, for every kilo of expensive commercial feed removed and a kilo or more of extra grain added, add 15 grams of Harness Special.  Full guidelines for ‘top-up’ amounts are included on the label.

What else do I need to feed with Harness Special?

Harness Special is a high potency supplement of trace-minerals and vitamins, particularly nutrients that are recognised for strength, stamina and performance in harness horses.  All you need to add is salts (ie Cell-Salts for comprehensive electrolytes).

Trainers not feeding lucerne hay may choose to add extra bone minerals, especially during early training when the bones are adapting by increasing bone density and hardening in response to high concussive forces that Harness horses achieve during their training and racing.

Trainers do not need to provide extra iron by injections or liquid feed supplements, because Harness Special contains higher levels of iron, as three orally available forms for better uptake and utilisation, plus more vitamin B12 and folic acid, to meet the increased needs of harness horses fed on grain, chaff and hay based diets.

What makes Harness Special specific to harness racing horses?

Harness horses have higher requirements for energy and many nutrients compared to gallopers, as studies have shown that they train three times harder and race twice as often as Thoroughbreds.  Harness Special includes higher concentrations of certain nutrients in order to fuel long training sessions which are commonly used to prepare harness horses for their racing schedule.

For example, multiple forms of iron are included to help maintain the blood and oxygen delivery in hard working or racing horses.  Harness Special also contains concentrated forms of organic selenium (as highly available organic chelate selenomethionine) and vitamin E to boost antioxidant levels in muscle cells during long and hard training and regular racing.
