Equine Gastric Ulcers Factsheet

Many horses suffer from gastric acid irritation which may lead to stomach ulcers. In fact, approximately 60% of performance horses gastric ulcers, although resting horses can also be affected. Equine gastric ulcers are referred to as EGUS (Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome). Gastric ulcers can severely limit performance and if not treated can become chronic and even fatal if the stomach wall is eroded. This factsheet discusses the causes, treatments and prevention of gastric ulcers in horses.
